Can wood parquet be used with underfloor heating?

Can wood parquet be used with underfloor heating?

Some wood parquet systems can be used over underfloor heating, but suitability cannot be inferred from the word “wood” or from thickness alone. The selected product approval, total thermal resistance of the floor build-up, screed moisture, even heat distribution, maximum surface temperature and commissioning procedure must agree. No Akarsu Parquetry pattern should be presented as suitable until the actual project data has been reviewed.

Why is thickness alone an incomplete test?

Heat passes through the complete build-up: parquet construction, adhesive, primer and any intermediate layer. The heating designer should include their combined thermal resistance in the system calculation. A generic online value cannot replace the declaration for the exact floor product and installation method.

What should the specification team verify?

  • Water-based or electric system, design output and target floor temperature.

  • Screed type, thickness, measured moisture and recorded heating protocol.

  • Written compatibility of the parquet, adhesive and intermediate layers.

  • Potential hot spots beneath fixed furniture or insulating rugs.

  • The indoor relative-humidity range during operation.

Is 27°C a universal limit?

Many technical guides state about 27°C as a maximum wood-floor surface temperature. It is a useful warning point, not universal approval for every product. The heating design, applicable local standard and floor manufacturer’s instructions remain controlling. Regulation should protect the actual floor surface rather than relying only on water-flow temperature.

Why do screed moisture and commissioning matter?

A screed is not ready merely because its surface looks dry. Moisture must be measured by the method required for the project, and the heating cycle must be completed and recorded before installation. After laying, temperature is raised gradually. These steps manage moisture and wood movement; they do not turn an unapproved product into an approved one.

How should a patterned floor enter the plan?
