Sourcing marquetry parquet from Turkey: an RFQ guide
A practical guide for architects, importers and procurement teams defining the product, project data and RFQ needed to source custom marquetry parquet from Turkey.
What should you define before sourcing from Turkey?
Before sourcing marquetry parquet from Turkey, define the floor you need rather than starting with a supplier shortlist. Pattern, panel dimensions, project area, wood species, surface treatment and project location should be written into one request for quotation. Offers based on different assumptions are not comparable, even when every document uses the words “custom parquet.” A useful sourcing process therefore begins with product scope and only then moves to manufacturer evaluation.
Decision | Information to include in the RFQ | What it prevents |
|---|---|---|
Product category | Marquetry parquet, not a generic wood-flooring label | Comparing unlike floor constructions or services |
Pattern | Collection reference or bespoke design file | Ambiguity about geometry and design work |
Dimensions | Measured plan, net area and preferred panel size | A pattern being priced without spatial context |
Wood | Oak, walnut, teak, birch or an open evaluation request | Unclear colour and grain expectations |
Surface | Brushed, smoked, metallic effect or smooth | Different finishes being treated as equivalent |
Project scope | Country, city, project stage and quantity | A quotation detached from the actual enquiry |
Is a parquet seller the same as a manufacturer?
No. A seller may present a broad flooring catalogue, while a manufacturer may manage pattern development, wood selection, precision cutting and surface finishing. That distinction matters when an architectural project requires a non-standard panel, a particular wood combination or a pattern that must be evaluated from drawings.
Country of origin does not establish product fit by itself. Confirm the production location, the exact product category and the data available for the proposed floor separately. A standard plank, a patterned panel and a bespoke marquetry commission should not be compared as though they were interchangeable.
For a broader set of verification questions, use the guide on how to choose a marquetry parquet manufacturer.
What belongs in a comparable marquetry parquet RFQ?
A strong RFQ gives every candidate the same inputs. It also makes omissions visible before they become commercial assumptions. Include the following:
Identify the project type, country, city and current design stage.
State the net floor area and explain whether any allowance has been added.
Attach a dimensioned plan showing room boundaries and desired pattern direction.
Name a collection pattern or provide a clear bespoke design reference.
Specify the preferred wood species and surface treatment, or list the alternatives to be evaluated.
Ask which items are included in the offer instead of assuming a logistics or installation scope.
State your decision programme without inventing a manufacturing or delivery promise.
This information does more than support pricing. It tests whether the response reflects the requested pattern, dimensions, wood and surface. If those items are missing from the reply, the parties may not be discussing the same product.
The related guide to the custom-made marquetry parquet process explains how a project brief moves into design and production evaluation.
Should you choose a collection pattern or request bespoke work?
A collection pattern provides a defined starting point: geometry, existing colour treatments and panel dimensions can be reviewed before the RFQ. Bespoke work is appropriate when the project requires a different size, pattern or wood combination. It remains an evaluation, not an automatic promise that every reference can be produced exactly as submitted.
Akarsu Parquetry’s current collection contains 10 patterns and 37 colour treatments. The available woods are oak, walnut, teak and birch; surface options include brushed, smoked, metallic-effect and smooth treatments. Collection products have a total thickness of 15 mm. You can review these options in the marquetry parquet collection.
Dimensions, patterns and wood combinations outside the collection can be evaluated to order. Marking the RFQ as either a collection selection or a bespoke development request keeps the commercial scope clear.
What can Akarsu Parquetry evaluate for an international project?
Akarsu Parquetry manufactures marquetry parquet in its workshop in Sultangazi, Istanbul. Pattern development, wood selection, precision cutting and surface finishing are carried out in the Istanbul workshop, combining handcraft with modern production technology.
A project enquiry can be evaluated when the measured plan, target pattern, preferred wood and surface, total area and project location are supplied. Production capacity, certificates, lead time, shipping terms, installation scope and price are project-specific matters; none should be inferred before they are confirmed for the enquiry. This keeps the response factual and prevents a general marketing statement from being mistaken for a contractual term.
What should the procurement handover freeze?
The handover should place the pattern, module dimensions, species allocation, grain direction, finish and net area under one revision. Open design choices remain clearly labelled alternatives. This gives the buyer a defined pricing basis and prevents an early concept image from being treated as the final product specification.
Ask each bidder to state qualifications, departures and exclusions against the relevant line. Silence is not confirmation. Bid clarification should close those gaps before appointment, with the drawing and finish schedule used for pricing identified in the response.
Where is the interface between supply and destination services?
Separate the floor, packing, freight, insurance, import handling, unloading, site movement and installation. Record the delivery interface being priced rather than assuming one standard scope. This reveals whether a commercial difference belongs to the product or to logistics and local services.
The importer or client verifies destination-market requirements with its customs and compliance advisers. Manufacture in Turkey does not by itself establish that every document required in every country is included. The RFQ lists the requested documentation and the supplier confirms the available scope.
How should bid clarifications survive a design revision?
A change to pattern, timber, finish, module or quantity creates a new issue of the full enquiry pack. Do not rely on a correction buried in an email thread. The revised quotation should name its drawing and material-schedule basis so that design, procurement and manufacturing teams work from the same information.
Before order, close the approval owner, open queries, supply boundary and authorised revision in one record. Production and delivery timing is confirmed for that project scope; it should not be inferred from a general statement.
A final procurement readiness check
Do the plan, area schedule and material schedule carry the same revision?
Are pattern, module, species, allocation, grain and finish defined?
Are net area and the method for calculating order quantity separated?
Are project location and priced delivery interface stated?
Are documents, services, departures and exclusions visible?
Are technical approval and commercial decision owners named?
What should you send with your first enquiry?
The most useful first package contains a dimensioned plan, total area, chosen pattern or design reference, wood and surface preferences, and the project location. If a choice is still open, name the alternatives. Asking the manufacturer to evaluate oak and walnut, for example, is clearer than leaving the material unspecified.
To evaluate a Turkish-made marquetry parquet option for your project, send that package with your request for quotation.
